Prepare for the Future…

by Chris on Sep.30, 2008, under Computers, Windows

It looks like Bethesda has released a new viral website for Fallout 3 called Prepare for the future.

It’s full of videos talking about Vault-Tec technology as well as video and screenshots from the game itself. It was pretty entertaining and filled my Fallout 3 bug for a while. Only a couple more weeks and we get to play this great looking game.

Washington speak or Why American politics is crazy!

by Chris on Sep.29, 2008, under Blogging

I was reading this article over on CNN about Obama’s reaction to the bail out bill that was voted on today and I noticed something. In a quote from the McCain-Palin camp it said:

“Barack Obama failed to lead, phoned it in, attacked John McCain and refused to even say if he supported the final bill. … This bill failed because Barack Obama and the Democrats put politics ahead of country,” Holtz-Eakin said.

But if we look at the votes for the bill, it reads:

The bill failed by a vote of 205 to 228, with 140 Democrats and 65 Republicans voting in favor and 95 Democrats joining 133 Republicans against.

How can the Democrats have caused the bill to fail when the majority of them voted for it, while the majority of McCain’s party voted against it?

Why is the party of one of the next possible presidents of the USA voting opposite to what it’s chosen representative says is best for this country?

The report also stats:

Republicans and Democrats blamed each other for the failure of the bill, which President Bush had urged Congress to approve.

How can the Republican party blame the Democratic party for the failure of this bill? The votes obviously show that the blame lies solely with the Republicans. This idea was created by a Republican, worked on by Republicans and Democrats and then is voted down by the party who’s President suggested it. What is the reason here?

Did President Bush simply suggest the idea to look good, knowing full well his party would vote against it? Is there really that much of a rift between President Bush (and Sen. McCain) and their party? Why would a party choose McCain and then go against him? Isn’t McCain supposed to be one of the best examples of the Republican Party? If the President and the Presidential candidate are so far from the majority ideas of their party, why would the party pick those people? I was under the impression that a presidential candidate for a party should represent the most mainstream ideas of that party. If that isn’t the case, why have the party pick that person?

If anyone has an answer to these questions, I’d love to hear them.

Just so I have equal coverage, I’ll do the Democrat walk. The article suggests, through Obama’s words, that he voted for the bill and it seems his party agreed with his position. So at least on that side of the map the party seems to agree with their candidate. Now that I can understand.

Random idea…

by Chris on Sep.24, 2008, under Blogging, Computers, Technology

This is just a random application idea… that sort of turned into a futurist session.

Cloud based Media Library

Client application connects to bittorrent like cloud that hosts media files (TV show, music, etc) which can be “streamed” at any time. Media which is added by one person, is available to everyone. The cloud would self maintain the integrity and availability of files by automatically distributing the data to multiple users. Users would be ranked by the cloud on up-time, reserved disk space, bandwidth, etc. Requested media is downloaded from multiple sources as the file is played. This would require at least a 10mb connection for both upload and download.

This is probably what the Internet will become eventually. With desktops/laptops/cell phones/etc being just interfaces to a giant cloud of computing. We will simply upload our data to what appears to be one single source (or multiple separate clouds for user “choice”), but that won’t be until you can run a game from the cloud at Super HD resolutions with amazing frame rates. That’ll probably cause the death of the desktop power house.

Anyway, time to watch House :)
