Kyoshiro to towa no sora
by Chris on May.22, 2007, under Anime
Ok, first impressions first I guess. This show is very confusing at first. Little is told about the background story, and I’m not going to tell much about it here either. By the end of the show I understood what the anime makers were going for, but I think they missed the mark a little.
The story is about a girl, Shiratori Kuu. She is normal school girl who has a dream about her “prince charming”. When she finally meets a guy that seems to be her prince though, everything goes to hell. Giant robots, fighting angels and a massive case of sibling rivalry.
This show, even though it has plenty of fighting, seems to really be a romance story. A romance story that spends a lot of time focuses on girls/women kissing. Although it’s not kissing in a nice yuri sense, if you were hoping for that.
So, overall, this show wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t that great in my opinion. You’re left in the dark until about episode 5 and even by the end there were questions I wanted answering. Maybe I’ll read the manga and see if that answers any of them. If you want a show with a bit of everything then this is a step in the right direction, although I’ve seen better.
Rating: Decent…
Fancy Lala
by Chris on May.21, 2007, under Anime
Well I just finished this anime. It was a pretty fun, family friendly story. It’s a slightly older anime, from the late ’90s, which you can kind of tell from the animation style.
Shinohara Miho is a third grade girl who encounters two strange dinosaur looking creatures called Pigu and Mogu. These creatures give Miho a magic sketch book and pen which allows her to become an older version of herself which she calls Lala. As Lala, Miho gets spotted by a talent agency and the anime tells of her adventures.
This wasn’t a bad anime at all. If you’re looking for a fun story that’s generally happy then Fancy Lala will fit that bill. It’s got odd hints of romance, a helping of comedy, a dollop of drama and hefty serving of “mahou shoujo”.
Rating: Good, it’s worth watching if you like these kinds of stories.
Battle Angel Alita (OAV)
by Chris on May.21, 2007, under Anime, Japan
Well, I’m going to return to doing reviews of anime I’ve watched once I’ve finished with the series. I’m not going to review shows that I haven’t completed (unless I didn’t complete it because it’s crap) and I’m not going to review ongoing shows (unless I feel that the show really really diserves it).
So I watched Battle Angel over the weekend, after Scott said it was a good show. I’d seen the ending many times while watching AMVHell 3 so I kind of new what was coming. Heres the synopisis for the story, I pinched this one from ANN as it seems to sum up the story nicely:
Doc Ido, a doctor and mechanic who lives and works in the hellish, postapocalyptic “Scrapyard”, finds the – miraculously preserved – remains of a female cyborg in a junk heap. After he revives and rebuilds her, the preternaturally strong, amnesiac “Gally” begins to forge a life for herself in a world where every day can bring a fight for life. Adapts the first two volumes of the “Battle Angel Alita” manga.
I liked the episodes. It kept me watching through the full hour, and at the end I was wanting more. I guess if I want more I’ll have to buy the Manga. Oh well
. The animation was decent and the acting was decent too. I wasn’t blown away, but it wasn’t a waste of time either.
Rating: Decent, good way to pass an hour and you want to watch anime.
