Trek Orginal Series Redone…

by Chris on Aug.31, 2006, under Trek

Well I expected it to happen at some point, but I guess it’s going to be here on Sept 16th.

They have digitally remaster and recreated the Orginal Trek series. They are replacing a lot of the FX, especially the ship ones, with new CGI shots. They have also rerecorded the opening sound track and redone a bunch of the internal view screen shots. I wonder how it’s going to look, 2006 CGI graphics surrounded by 1960s sets… Wierd probably.

Here’s what the “new” enterprise looks like:

NAftp Server Listing

by Chris on Aug.30, 2006, under Anime, Computers, News, Technology

One of my hidden side projects is a bit of php code that goes to a database, fetches a list of anime titles and then dumps them into a database. It’s also a nice interface that lists all the titles, when they were last updated, gives links to Anime News Network and Anidb and also has an RSS feed of lastest releases.

I haven’t posted about this before, because, well I didn’t want to :p but now that I’m doing some work on it again, I think I’m going to talk about it and what I see for it.

I’m about to adding title tracking to it, so that after I’ve downloaded and burned a show I can click a link and it’ll store that I have it. That way I don’t accidently download it twice. Right now it only does it to me, and I wonder if anyone else would actually use it. Maybe, we’ll see.

I’m thinking about maybe releasing a version for people to use personally. I’m not sure if it would be hard coded for NA or if it would be something you could use to access and track any ftp server. I doubt there is much of a need out there, but I’m sure someone somewhere could use it.

Vista – Part 2

by Chris on Aug.29, 2006, under Computers, Tablet PC, Technology, Windows

So you may know, or may not know, that I have a tablet PC. I love my tablet, and I love it even more now that it has Vista on it. The new onscreen keyboard is great. You can see it hiding in the screenshot of my desktop in the last post. I’ll point it out for you just in case:

It likes to hide most of the time. It casts a small shadow on the desktop and is bearly noticable. When you hover your mouse over it though, it pops out and looks like this:

Then when you click it, it slides out from it’s nice little hiding place. If you have ever used XP Tablet edition then you’ll know how annoying the little popup writing area is. Half the time it pops up somewhere you don’t want it to, or it docks to the top or bottom of the screen automatically and just causes problems. So here’s what the new one looks like:

I really like the drop shadow on it. My machine doesn’t support Areo :( so these little things make me feel like I’m not using XP anymore. Having used XP since Beta 1, all those years ago, I’m a little sad to see it go, but on the other hand I’m glad that I’m going to get to play with yet another one of Microsofts creations. Hopefully this one will be better than the last.

Vista Pre-RC1

by Chris on Aug.29, 2006, under Computers, Tablet PC, Windows

I got an official invite to take part in the Pre-RC1 install of Vista today. So I’ve downloaded it and installed it. Here is my nice Pre-RC1 vista installed on my laptop as my primary O/S:

Yes, I have strange tastes in wallpaper, and for Jeff here is the current process list:

I’ll probably post some kind of review of this build of Vista between now and RC1, but I will say this, it’s WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than beta 2, so if you have only used that (or an older build) make sure you give RC1 a shot. If it’s better than this build it’s going to be really nice.
