Da Capo ~Second Season~
by Chris on Mar.27, 2006, under Anime
I finished watching this show this weekend. It’s the second season of Da Capo, an anime based on a dating sim game, and it was pretty good. It follows on pretty nicely from the first season although it takes a few episodes to figure out the situation. It’s set two years after the last season and at the beginning you notice that one major character is missing. You don’t find out what happened until a few episodes in. The middle episodes have some great character development and when the main story really kicks in you have a good feeling for all the characters.
If you haven’t seen the first season, don’t watch this show because you really won’t understand it that well. A number of the jokes really don’t work without understanding the characters either. You also won’t get all the references to “two years ago” either if you haven’t watched the first season, and most of the plot is has a grounding in what happened before.
Rating: Excellent
Iketeru Futari
by Chris on Mar.24, 2006, under Anime
This show is a blatent Ecchi comedy with a ton of fan service. It was pretty funny and I wouldn’t say the 90 minutes I spent watching the whole series was a waste. It does have a plot, although not the strongest I’ve seen. But with only 16 episodes, each one running 5.5 minutes I’m not surpised.
The general plot goes something like this: It’s about a guy see, who is a total pervert (surprise surprise) and he falls head over heels in love with Koizumi (the blue haired girl in the picture). He spends the rest of the series trying to win her love even though she appears to hate men and actually have a thing for other girls. Throw in the big breasted childhood friend who has a thing for the guy and you have yourself a typical bit of anime.
Rating: Very good
(PS: the rating system I’m going to use is Masterpiece, Excellent, Very good, Good, Decent, So-so, Not really good, Weak, Bad, Awful, Worst ever.)
Microsoft Warns Of Dangerous IE Exploit..
by Chris on Mar.24, 2006, under Computers
Oh look, one more reason not to use Internet Explorer. I’m glad I use Firefox so I don’t have to deal with these kinds of things…
An exploit for a new zero-day bug in Internet Explorer appeared Thursday, causing security companies to ring alarms and Microsoft to issue a security advisory that promised it would patch the problem.
Just a day after anti-virus vendors warned of a new zero-day vulnerability in Internet Explorer — the second such alert since Friday — companies including Symantec and Secunia boosted security levels as news of a public exploit spread.
Symantec issued warnings to customers of its DeepSight Threat Management System that an exploit had appeared for the just-announced CreateTextRange JavaScript bug. “The DeepSight team has successfully tested this exploit, and verified that it does in fact work as advertised against a fully patched Windows XP SP2 machine,” the warning read.
DNA2 – Inital Review
by Chris on Mar.23, 2006, under Anime
DNA² is a story about a guy see. Some girl from the future (Karin) shoots him (Junta) with a bullet that alters his DNA. She did this because at some point he becomes a Mega-Playboy and causes a population explosion in the future. Unfortunately for Karin, she shoots him with the wrong bullet and actually causes him to become the Mega-Playboy. The DNA change isn’t stable though so he bounces back and forth between the Mega-Playboy and normal Junta.(That’s what you get with messing with the time-line!). The twist, if it needed another one, is that the guy is normally allergic to girls, except his long time childhood friend Ami, who happens to have a crush on him. When he is the Mega-Playboy he looses this allergy but he often gets turned back into normal Junta while in some compromising situation with another girl and ends up puking all over the place. He doesn’t even realise that Ami has a thing for him, so he does the typical insensitive Anime guy thing of asking her for Romantic advice so he can either chase after Karin (when he’s normal) or some other girl (when he is Mega-Playboy).
The show is kind of a spin on a romantic sci-fi comedy with elements of a harem anime thrown in for good measure. It has it’s Ecchi moments, but no more than the average show in this genre. Overall it’s not bad. It has some very funny moment (Episode 4’s puke fountain in the changing rooms got me in stitches) but it’s basically a wait-and-see show. We have to wait-and-see if he hooks up with Ami or Karin and this is one of the first times with a show that I’m actually torn between the two. Once I’m done I’ll post a final review, but I won’t spoil it for anyone who wants to watch it.
