This is one sweet looking car. I want one. Check out more about the Honda FC Sport concept car here.

I just wish there were more cars that look like this on the market. We couldn’t have our flying cars, but at least we could have vehicles that look like they were created in the 21st century.

I think if I had a car like this, I’d probably have a massive electric bill from just driving around showing it off to everyone.

This show is very confusing at first. Little is told about the background story, and I’m not going to tell much about it here either. By the end of the show I understood what the anime makers were going for, but I think they missed the mark a little.

The story is about a girl, Shiratori Kuu. She is normal school girl who has a dream about her “prince charming”. When she finally meets a guy that seems to be her prince though, everything goes to hell. Giant robots, fighting angels and a massive case of sibling rivalry.

This show, even though it has plenty of fighting, seems to really be a romance story. A romance story that spends a lot of time focuses on girls/women kissing. Although it’s not kissing in a nice yuri sense, if you were hoping for that.

So, overall, this show wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t that great in my opinion. You’re left in the dark until about episode 5 and even by the end there were questions I wanted answering. Maybe I’ll read the manga and see if that answers any of them. If you want a show with a bit of everything then this is a step in the right direction, although I’ve seen better.

Rating: Decent…

Well I just finished this anime. It was a pretty fun, family friendly story. It’s a slightly older anime, from the late ’90s, which you can kind of tell from the animation style.

Shinohara Miho is a third grade girl who encounters two strange dinosaur looking creatures called Pigu and Mogu. These creatures give Miho a magic sketch book and pen which allows her to become an older version of herself which she calls Lala. As Lala, Miho gets spotted by a talent agency and the anime tells of her adventures.

This wasn’t a bad anime at all. If you’re looking for a fun story that’s generally happy then Fancy Lala will fit that bill. It’s got odd hints of romance, a helping of comedy, a dollop of drama and hefty serving of “mahou shoujo”.

Rating: Good, it’s worth watching if you like these kinds of stories.

Well, I’m going to return to doing reviews of anime I’ve watched once I’ve finished with the series. I’m not going to review shows that I haven’t completed (unless I didn’t complete it because it’s crap) and I’m not going to review ongoing shows (unless I feel that the show really really diserves it).

So I watched Battle Angel over the weekend, after Scott said it was a good show. I’d seen the ending many times while watching AMVHell 3 so I kind of new what was coming. Heres the synopisis for the story, I pinched this one from ANN as it seems to sum up the story nicely:

Doc Ido, a doctor and mechanic who lives and works in the hellish, postapocalyptic “Scrapyard”, finds the – miraculously preserved – remains of a female cyborg in a junk heap. After he revives and rebuilds her, the preternaturally strong, amnesiac “Gally” begins to forge a life for herself in a world where every day can bring a fight for life. Adapts the first two volumes of the “Battle Angel Alita” manga.

I liked the episodes. It kept me watching through the full hour, and at the end I was wanting more. I guess if I want more I’ll have to buy the Manga. Oh well . The animation was decent and the acting was decent too. I wasn’t blown away, but it wasn’t a waste of time either.

Rating: Decent, good way to pass an hour and you want to watch anime.

One of my hidden side projects is a bit of php code that goes to a database, fetches a list of anime titles and then dumps them into a database. It’s also a nice interface that lists all the titles, when they were last updated, gives links to Anime News Network and Anidb and also has an RSS feed of lastest releases.

I haven’t posted about this before, because, well I didn’t want to :p but now that I’m doing some work on it again, I think I’m going to talk about it and what I see for it.

I’m about to adding title tracking to it, so that after I’ve downloaded and burned a show I can click a link and it’ll store that I have it. That way I don’t accidently download it twice. Right now it only does it to me, and I wonder if anyone else would actually use it. Maybe, we’ll see.

I’m thinking about maybe releasing a version for people to use personally. I’m not sure if it would be hard coded for NA or if it would be something you could use to access and track any ftp server. I doubt there is much of a need out there, but I’m sure someone somewhere could use it.

Damn! I watched way to much anime over the weekend. I’m not feeling well today, actually since Friday, so I got to finish the third show of the weekend. In order I watched the end of Spiral, some Tekkaman Blade, Black Heaven and just finished Blue Gender. Black Heaven and Blue Gender were excellent shows. I’m going to do a couple of mini reviews for them, while the others can wait. :p

Black Heaven is a show about a washed up rocker who is asked to go into space and use his “sound” to power an ultimate weapon in a war against a powerful invading alien race. It’s a great look at the hum-drum existence most of us face in our day to day lives… and the dreams we leave behind. It’s defiantly an adult show, not because it’s got fan-service (it has a little) but just because it’s a look at the world from a 40-something guys point of view. If you don’t have a day job you would never appreciate the story.

Rating: Very Good, don’t miss it!

The second show I’m going to review is Blue Gender. This was a great sci-fi show with a powerful story line. If you like movies like Aliens then you should like this one. It’s basically about a time in the future where strange giant insect creatures called the Blue have destroyed most of the cities on the planet and devastated the population. Very few people are left on the planet itself, while a small population of humans are living in space, trying to recapture the planet from the the Blue. The story basically tells the tale of the two main characters Marlene and Yuji and could almost be classified as a space-romance story, but there is really a lot more to it than that. Again, this is defiantly one for adults, it has gore, nudity and a couple of sex scenes (not graphic, think R rating in the US, 18 in the UK). Overall, even with the gore/nudity/etc, it’s still very tastefully done and not at all over the time.

Rating: Very Good as well, I really liked this one and hated having to actually go to bed and break up the story..

Well I started this review once and then my machine crashed and I lost it so time for round two:

This story is about a guy who 10 years ago lost is daughter in a massive explosion. Her body was never found so the guy (Roy) believes that she is still alive and spends the next 10 years searching for her. During that time he becomes a cop and then a bounty hunter, forging a lot of ties with the underground. After hunting a criminal, the criminals partner tries to kill Roy but during the fight a girl drops out of the sky and inadvertently saves Roy. Roy takes the girl home, only to kick her out in the morning. After that she starts to follow him around much to Roy’s annoyance.

The story develops after this and many many things happen. This is one of those shows that has some great character development and comedy in the first 13 or so episodes and after that takes a turn towards the dark. It has some very powerful episodes and some very heart wrenching ones.

The pace of this show is pretty good, it does slow down a little at parts, but there isn’t any filler episodes. There’s a little fan-service earlier on (the mandatory swimsuit episodes) but it’s in the character development phase so it doesn’t hurt the plot at all.

Overall this was a very good show in my opinion. I liked the shift from happy happy joy joy to dark and dangerous. It does have a mature rating on ANN, but it’s mainly for the violence and blood.

Rating: Good, worth seeing.

Well I just finished this one and it wasn’t bad at all. It kept me wanting to watch it, which is a good thing. So how about a plot..

It’s about a guy see, and he’s a God Hunter. His mother can see the future and his girlfriend is a kawaii onnanoko with big elf ears (see the picture). Lots of people want to either capture him, kill him or turn him into a bomb. The story chronicles his journey to save his mother while trying to evade the two floating cities full of magic and mechas that are after him, and at the same time he has to deal with the whole God Hunter thing.

This show has it all. Tears, action, adventure, romance and lots of laughs. I think one of the best lines in the series is when Yorn (the main character) is about to be captured and the white panther yells “Run away!”. At that moment the chief cat girl (with the ears, nose and little cat mouth) shouts, “The cat can talk!” with a look of surprise on her face. The perfect irony of the line just cracked me up. That’s the kind of comedy this show has, which for me is what I like.

Oh, I will warn you, this show does have a sadish ending, so if you don’t like sadish (or sadder) endings you probably shouldn’t watch this. Overall though, I would recommend this show to people who like fantasy/sci-fi shows that span a lot of genres.

Rating: Good, worth seeing
