Do you develop apps for webOS using Ares?

Do you wish you could easily switch tlhIngan Hol text to pIqaD?

Then download this simple javascript library that allows you to easily convert romanized tlhIngan Hol to pIqaD.

Simply copy the included javascript file to the root of your Palm Ares app. Then add a line to sources.json that tells the app to load the file. Once the file is installed you can easily create a new copy of the pIqaDClass and start converting:

this.pIqaD = new pIqaDClass();
str = “tlhIngan Hol”;
pIqaDstr = this.pIqaD.convert(str);

Over the past few weeks I’ve been working on a package for Windows Vista/Windows 7 that will enable pIqaD (Klingon writing) support throughout the operating system.

I have created a new Klingon local, a pIqaD keyboard layout, a Unicode pIqaD font and a registry script to link the font into the system. This package enables pIqaD to be used in any unicode aware application without having to make specific font changes. Check out these screen shots:

You can download this package right here: pIqaD Installer

Installing this should also enable the language bar so you can switch to the Klingon keyboard (it’s called OL in the language bar, MS won’t let you change everything). If you download this package and try it out, please comment on this thread and let me know if you’re successful or if you have any errors.

DISCLAIMER: While I’m 99% sure this won’t do anything harmful to your system, it is a “beta” version. If you do decide to install it and your PC blows up or something else happens, please don’t send me death threats. I will try and help in anyway I can, but somethings are beyond my control.

If your using Windows XP and want to add pIqaD support, check out this post on the Klingon Language Institutes Wiki (also by me).

   <- Once the font is installed you should be able to read this too.

Welcome to the new tlhIngbuntu, the real ubuntu Klingon Edition. I have setup a basic repo for it and will be adding new packages over the coming weeks. So far I only have a new usplash theme package in there, but more will be coming soon.

Edit: I have setup a web site for Klingbuntu: http://klingbuntu.wizage.net/

This is just a random application idea… that sort of turned into a futurist session.

Cloud based Media Library

Client application connects to bittorrent like cloud that hosts media files (TV show, music, etc) which can be “streamed” at any time. Media which is added by one person, is available to everyone. The cloud would self maintain the integrity and availability of files by automatically distributing the data to multiple users. Users would be ranked by the cloud on up-time, reserved disk space, bandwidth, etc. Requested media is downloaded from multiple sources as the file is played. This would require at least a 10mb connection for both upload and download.

This is probably what the Internet will become eventually. With desktops/laptops/cell phones/etc being just interfaces to a giant cloud of computing. We will simply upload our data to what appears to be one single source (or multiple separate clouds for user “choice”), but that won’t be until you can run a game from the cloud at Super HD resolutions with amazing frame rates. That’ll probably cause the death of the desktop power house.

Anyway, time to watch House
